Arrow Electronics, in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver, has finalized the construction of a residential community in Colorado, and this venture is presented as "the nation's first affordable smart community." Every dwelling in this development is equipped with integrated smart home technology.
As part of the affordable smart community project, Habitat for Humanity secured donated products and technical assistance from Arrow's network of corporate partners to outfit the homes with devices aimed at improving security, managing energy and water use, and monitoring indoor air quality. The residents, who are first-time homeowners through Habitat's program, were provided with these systems at no additional cost and will not incur ongoing subscription fees.
The project also included substantial volunteer labor from Arrow employees and is positioned as a potential prototype for integrating similar technology into future affordable housing projects.
