Toy-branded game studios are giving entertainment companies greater control over how their established properties expand into interactive experiences. Mattel has formed Mattel Game Studios, a global organization of nearly 300 artists, designers, engineers, producers, and live operations specialists. The studio will develop, publish, and operate original games inspired by Mattel brands across mobile and creator platforms including Roblox and Fortnite. Its pipeline includes UNO Wild and a new Hot Wheels title, building on a mobile portfolio that has generated more than 550 million downloads worldwide.
Bringing development and publishing capabilities in-house allows Mattel to capture more value from its intellectual property while maintaining greater control over how brands appear digitally. Free-to-play titles and ongoing live operations can create recurring engagement beyond physical toy purchases, while cross-platform experiences give Mattel additional ways to reach younger audiences and turn established franchises into longer-lasting digital ecosystems.
