In an effort to spot more bad guys, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police are using 3D imaging technology to print more realistic looking mugshots. 3D cameras are being used in an effort to identify more criminals off of security camera footage.
The police department hopes to outfit all 102 stations with the cameras by April of this year. Law enforcement will also be able to take 3D mugshots in addition to more traditional photographs for their investigations. The 3D imaging technology will create images from three different perspectives and use striped lighting to illuminate the picture, creating a three-dimensional effect.
