MING Introduces 29.06 Peep Show Limited Edition Timepiece

MING unveils the 29.06 Peep Show, a limited-edition watch built around a polarization-based dial system that creates a shifting visual effect. The watch is part of the brand’s 29-series case family, featuring a 40mm titanium case with a thickness of 11.8mm and a bezel-less construction that allows the sapphire crystal to span the entire front surface. The design uses linearly polarized sapphire discs in place of traditional hands, which control the visibility of the dial depending on their alignment.

The dial effect transitions between full visibility and complete darkness as the polarized discs rotate relative to each other. When aligned, light passes through to reveal a multicolored guilloché metal dial treated with a multiphasic coating first introduced in earlier MING designs. When the discs are positioned at opposing angles, light is blocked and the dial becomes fully dark, creating a continuous cycle of appearance and disappearance as time passes.

Polarization-based Display Techniques
Polarization-controlled elements enabling reversible visibility in compact devices create opportunities for novel low-power, high-contrast display modules that redefine how information is shown and hidden.
Bezel-less Full-front Sapphire Interfaces
Seamless, full-surface crystal construction introduces possibilities for integrating uninterrupted tactile and visual interfaces that alter product form factors and premium material use.
Kinetic Visual Concealment
Mechanically driven appearance-and-disappearance effects offer new modes of discreet information presentation and aesthetic dynamism that can differentiate products through time-based visual behavior.

Sectors Adopting This

Luxury Watchmaking
High-end horology can leverage advanced optical coatings and polarization mechanics to create collectible timepieces with programmable visual personalities that shift perceived value and desirability.
Wearable Technology
Consumer wearables stand to benefit from compact polarization displays and bezel-less surfaces that enable subtle notifications and customizable privacy layers without increasing device thickness.
Optical Components Manufacturing
Producers of sapphire, polarizers, and multilayer coatings may be disrupted by demand for precision, small-form polarization discs and multiphasic treatments tailored to dynamic visual effects.
