Sports is one field where this type of technology could really take off. Considering most activities require the hands to be free, devices that can track fitness while attached to the body are extremely valuable. The Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 takes these factors into consideration, coming with features such as a heart rate monitor and calorie counter.

While it may be some time before everyone walks around with smartwatches, it's clear that the wheels have been set in motion for more kinds of wearable tech.
