From Fresh Seafood Subscriptions to Localized Renewable Energy

 - May 16, 2013
From fresh seafood subscriptions to localized renewable energy and fish leather watch straps, these fish-focused social innovations have clean and sustainable oceans in mind. There is also Aquaponics UK, a social enterprise that works toward developing closed loop plant systems in an effort to reduce waste -- energy and food waste.

Interestingly, enough two of these food-focused social innovations don't focus specifically on ocean sustainability but rather incorporate fish-printed duds into their children's apparel company, which are organic and ethically produced. Another clothing company is United by Blue, which we've featured more than once on Social Business and organizes clean-ups every so often and has a kind of one for one model: for every one piece of clothing sold, the environmental business removes one pound of trash from oceans and waterways.
