In this female leadership keynote, the former CEO and Chairman of Sara Lee discusses what it means to be an effective leader and how women play an integral role in the workforce today. Similar to the recent financial crisis that rocked the economy, Brenda Barnes argues that leadership among CEOs also experienced a crisis. She then references a recent study that revealed CEO credibility is currently at an all-time low.
Barnes believes that every person has a different definition of leadership. She sees a leader as someone who inspires others to act and to do the right thing. A true leader will do the right thing even if that decision is unpopular or very difficult. Leadership is all about finding a balance that works and she believes that her experience as a mother, raising her children, being a wife and working, prepared her to be a strong leader.
Her female leadership keynote explains that businesses need to be more open-minded about hiring women CEOs because they are naturally inclined to be better leaders.
