A new reposado tequila has been introduced to the U.S. market by Tequila El Mexicano, a brand under Foley Family Wines & Spirits. This new expression is produced by the Bañuelos family in the highlands of Arandas, Mexico.
The Tequila El Mexicano Reposado is positioned as an additive-free spirit that emphasizes traditional methods and a purity of ingredients limited to agave, water, and natural yeast. The production process is detailed as meticulous, involving agave plants matured for a minimum of six years, a prolonged 24-hour cooking cycle, an unusual seven-day open-air fermentation aided by classical music, and double distillation in custom stainless steel pot stills. The reposado is aged for 90 days in a blend of American and French oak barrels that have undergone a multi-year natural seasoning process to reduce tannins.
