OHLAB Designs the New Palma Apartment Block to Provide Shade

Mallorca design studio OHLAB designs the new sliding panels made from thin wooden slats along the interiors of an apartment block located on the island in Palma. It is added to provide shade and better ventilation, especially with heat. It is found on the Paseo Mallorca and has 15 apartments with a basement spa and gym for local residents along with private spaces.

The studio talks about the design, "The inner courtyard, with its different levels, acts as an inner lung of vegetation and trees until it reaches that landscape terraces with pools on the fourth, sixth and eighth floors of the building [...] The courtyard also connects with below, providing lighting and vegetation to the basement which houses the resident's pool, gym and spa, transforming it into a unifying vertical axis that links the building's vegetation and allows for cross-ventilation."
