Japanese architect Kengo Kuma presents its latest design made with V&A Dundee museum and whiskey distillery The Dalmore. Together, the three create a limited-edition sculpture that holds a bottle of the brand's single-malt whisky libation. The bottle is made by hand and celebrates the Japanese craft of kintsugi, which is known as the golden joinery. it is made from 48 pieces of diamond-shaped modules that are made from Japanese and Scottish oak along with polished steel.
The display is made to hold the 48-year-old whiskey known as 'The Rare' which was made by The Dalmore's master distiller Richard Paterson. It is limited to an online run of three bottles and speaking about the design, Kuma states, "In my work with Richard Paterson and The Dalmore, I see the same respect for the environment, and the same careful attention to the way great design must continue to evolve over time [...] The glorifier design echoes this sensibility, inviting all who see it to consider the elements, seen and unseen, that have gone into its conception."
