Delfyd Farm is a remote coastal residence in South Wales redesigned by Rural Office to improve the functionality of an 1895 stone farmhouse. The project introduces two extensions positioned on either side of the original structure, forming a guest wing to the east and a combined dining and sitting space to the west. These additions create flexible zones that can open or close depending on use, allowing the home to accommodate both everyday living and visiting guests.
The extensions are expressed as distinct volumes clad in materials such as vertical larch and standing seam metal, chosen for durability in a coastal environment. Inside, finishes including quarry tiles, oak paneling, and vaulted plaster ceilings introduce texture while increasing light and spatial height. The layout frames views across surrounding farmland, hills, and coastline, with new rooms positioned to connect interior spaces to the landscape beyond.
