EC Power Group Created a Prototype Battery that Charges in 10 Minutes

EC Power Group announced that it has created an innovative 10-minute charge electric vehicle battery. This battery charges from nearly depleted to 100% power in roughly the amount of time a trip to the gas station takes, meaning if this battery sees scalability and widespread adoption, the attractiveness of EVs could increase significantly for the average consumer.

The 10-minute-charging battery was achieved through temperature-controlling technology called "internal thermal modulation." This allows the batteries to remain cold, even while fast-charging. One of the common issues with fast-charging all batteries from cellphones to cars, is overheating, which causes the battery to throttle its charge rate as not to damage its fuel cells. The full details surrounding EC Power Group's internal thermal modulation technology can be viewed on its website.

The lead author on the study, Professor Chao-Yang Wang, stated: "Our fast-charging technology works for most energy-dense batteries and will open a new possibility to downsize electric vehicle batteries from 150 to 50 kWh without causing drivers to feel range anxiety."
