From renewable material sneakers to fully biodegradable sneakers, the April 2022 shoes trends reveal that sustainable design is not a passing fad.

In recent years, a number of footwear brands have made an effort to repurpose recycled materials for new shoes. The latest brand to do this is KOKOLU, which recently released its first sustainable sneaker. The new shoe is made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic sourced from Eastern China, which is a low-impact material and also helps to free up valuable landfill space.

But as the April 2022 shoes trends reveal, it's not just about recycling. In some cases, brands are ensuring that their shoes are 100% eco-friendly – even after they've passed their point of use. For example, the New Zealand eco-footwear startup Orba now sells the first commercially available biodegradable eco sneakers, which are intentionally made to fall apart and fully decompose at the end of their usable life.
