Now that the social gifting movement has taken off, the Guusto app carved itself out a niche that focuses on sending only food and drink gifts. To use Guusto, a sender is able to narrow down a selection of what to gift by choosing something like an appetizer, dessert, a pint or an entire round of drinks. Then, they are able to apply an amount of money to allot to that item and tack on a personal message to the gift. When it comes time to redeem, Guusto can be used at any participating partners, including major chains like Boston Pizza, The Keg and Jack Astor's.

As well as offering a valuable way for friends and family to stay in touch while separated by distance, Guusto's creators suggest that its app is also an excellent way to connect with clients.

Considering that there are millions of dollars in gift cards that go unused each year, social gifting platforms like these make it much easier for gifts to be redeemed, simply because a mobile device is likely to be on hand.
