Though Barbie’s relationship with fashion designers through the years has been a love-hate affair, designers came out in droves to celebrate her upcoming 50th birthday on the 9th of March at New York Fashion Week.

Marchesa, Diane von Furstenberg, Betsey Johnson, and Calvin Klein are just a few of the talents who loaned their names to Barbie clothing designs for the New York Fashion Week event.

The dark-skinned Barbie even boosted the self-esteem of a young Rachel Roy, a designer with mixed Dutch and Indian heritage. "It helped me understand that brown was beautiful," she says. Many of the Barbie styles are headed straight for Bloomingdale's flagship store - but they'll be on display, not for sale. (news.yahoo)
