Grand Format is an emerging Ontario-based musical band that is attempting to coin a new genre in the name of ‘Bubblegum Freak Rock.’ The genre of music is inspired heavily by Nirvana and David Bowie and is a combination of 50s pop, psychedelic and classic rock. Band member Kurt Watkins describes their unique sound as “Kurt Cobain chewing bubblegum in a Parisian Cafe.”

Labeling one’s music is a conventional struggle that emerging bands go through at the beginning of their career. Bands start off by following their inspired bands’ footsteps and eventually identify their own style of music making after a couple years in. Grand Format is a leading-edge band with bright minds that are determined to have a direct influence within music’s progression by developing this new genre of sound parallel with their own music.
