As part of its holiday campaign, Walmart is trying its hand at creating a meme, which it is calling Frank the Fruitcake.

The talking fruitcake plays on the idea that it is the gift that no one wants -- each year, holiday fruitcakes are passed on to the next person, uneaten. People can visit to upload Frank the Fruitcake to their Facebook walls or send it on to their online friends. According to Mashable, once Frank the Fruitcake is on your wall, it will provide a running commentary via a video. For instance, the animated dessert might say, "Looks like you have a lot of friends. Call them up. Come on over. We can go caroling, play dreidels, whatever."

Frank the Fruitcake was created by the Martin Agency, whose creative director Joe Alexander said that the talking cake was supposed to be "annoyingly charming." Stats for Corporate Christmas Memes Trending: Older & Warm
