In an effort to connect people in prison with the outside word and allow loved ones to better communicate with inmates, Pigeonly wants to bring back the printed picture. The service turns your social snaps (like Instagram posts) into physical photos to send to incarcerated friends or family through regular post.

Through FotoPigeon, users can upload images from Facebook, Instagram or their cell phone. They then attach the name and address of the person behind bars, who will receive the picture in a couple days time. Users can send up to five photos a week for free, after which a $0.50 flat fee is instituted.

By providing a service for people to communicate with inmates, Pigeonly is especially beneficial for children growing up with family members in the penal system.
