As part of the hype surrounding Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Lucasfilm is putting on 'Art Awakens,' a gallery exhibit that will incorporate professional and fan art inspired by the new film.

Over the next two months, Star Wars fans across the States will participate in a nationwide fan art competition. Amateur artists and Star Wars enthusiasts can send their Force Awakens-inspired pieces into the Art Awakens site. A panel of judges from Lucasfilm, Disney and visual effects studio Industrial Light & Magic will pick five pieces of fan art to be included in the official Art Awakens exhibit. The five lucky artists will be flown to the exhibit opening at Gallery 1988 in L.A. All of the Art Awakens paintings -- both fan-made and professional art -- will be auctioned off at the end of the exhibit. The proceeds will be donated to UNICEF Kid Power.

The Art Awakens project builds hype for The Force Awakens and enlivens engagement with the legions of devoted Star Wars fans.
