The law firm Baker & Hostetler recently made headlines by hiring an artificially intelligent attorney named 'AI Ross' to work in its bankruptcy practice.

AI Ross was created using IBMs Watson cognitive computer to try and speed up the legal research process. Not only can the program read and interpret human language, but it can also formulate its own ideas and then conduct the necessary research. As a result, the digital attorney can provide answers to many different questions simply by mining through its archive of search results. The program also learns over time, meaning it can stay on top of developments in the law and ongoing legal research.

With the ability to perform tasks far more quickly than human lawyers, AI Ross demonstrates a new frontier for the world or law.
