The May 2016 food product trends reveal the ongoing demand for both health-centric products and decadent dishes that are meant for indulging in. Indeed, while many brands are shifting their attention towards better-for-you products, there is still a significant demand for outrageous dishes that push the boundaries of food.

The push for healthier food products is particularly evident when it comes to allergen-free foods. This largely refers to foods that are free from gluten, soy, dairy and other ingredients that cannot be consumed by those with certain health issues. As a result, companies have begun churning out alternative products such as coconut-based soft serve, gluten-free tartlets and vegan-friendly mayonnaise.

On the other hand, the May 2016 food product trends show that consumers still enjoy indulging in decadent food items every now and then. This is largely true of fast food restaurants that continue to experiment with unexpected flavors and exotic ingredients. Some examples of these decadent dishes include cookie-flavored donuts, pasta-topped pizzas and four-patty beef burgers.
