The Artist Deborah Simon Embroides a Furless Anatomy of Bears
Michael Nieto — December 12, 2013 — Art & Design
These anatomic bear sculptures were crafted with a furless anatomy perception. The New York-based artist Deborah Simon goes beyond boundaries by fabricating a series of faux-bear sculptures that materialize their vulnerability to human-initiated adversity. These sculptures were carefully made of clay, imitation fur, embroidery tools holding near perfect proportions and facial likenesses to their living environments.
They're also ornamented with intricate organ systems that are hand-stitched to their exterior. You can actually visualize the spine and veins running through the body interior. From a distance, these figures have realistic features that were created so precise using raw tools. These anatomic bear sculptures are a great example of how each animal has it's own distinctive anatomy for educational purposes.
