Date rape drugs are scentless, colorless and tasteless which makes rape drug detection very difficult. They are often sneaked into drinks without the victim noticing. The victim becomes helpless, unable to resist violence and often suffers from memory loss.
A group of Icelandic university students has designed plastic ice cubes for your alcoholic drink that not only cools it down, but glows if someone adds rape drugs into it. Date rape drugs have been a growing problem as they are so hard to detect, and both men and women are at risk. The most common rape drugs are butyric acid, rohypnol and ketamine.
"The cube is the size of an ice cube and we have contacted a number of clubs who have all been interested" says Jon Ragnar Jonsson, one of the innovators. "You put the cube in your glass in it will notify you if someone tries to sneak rape drugs into your glass. That's the idea." Jonsson says they will offer both disposable and reusable versions of the cube.
