Rafe Esquith has been called a “the most interesting and influential classroom teacher in the country” by The Washington Post. Esquith teaches fifth graders at a public school in an L.A neighbourhood ridden with violence and crime. His classroom at Hobart elementary is safe haven for the children, who voluntarily come in at 6:30 am and will at time leave around 5:00 p.m. Esquiths teaching styles have gained massive attention and earned him the National Teacher of the Year Award, and won accolades from Oprah, the Queen and the Dalai Lama. He is the only teacher to have received the president’s National Medal of the Arts. He has authored three books, titled ‘Teach Like Your Hair’s On Fire,’ ‘There Are No Shortcuts’ and ‘Lighting Their Fires.’
