Fair trade food products are arguably the most accessible of all fair trade goods. While the exact benefits -- as well as negative consequences -- vary from product to product and from country to country, fair trade has certainly seen its fair share of commercialization. Many food retailers, from your local co-operative or farmer's market to Starbucks and Walmart, offer "fair trade" alternatives to staples such as coffee and goodies like chocolate.
Why is it that fair trade food products have such a mass appeal and other industries, for instance clothing, aren't available in all mass markets like malls and shopping strips? In fact, fast fashion department stores like H&M and Topshop only seem to be increasing its scope, as they continue to open flagships in various countries.
