It’s often exceedingly difficult to find certified fair-trade goods, especially at a place like Wal-Mart, Costco or Sam’s Club. However, Wal-Mart Stores has just announced the launch of Neu Direction, a certified fair-trade wine from Lujan de Cuyo near Mendoza, Argentina. This year marks the first year of the Fair Trade Wine certification program in the United States, and Neu Direction is one of the first wines to achieve this distinction. Neu Direction Malbec will sell for about $10 a bottle at Sam’s Club.  Workers participating in Fair Trade Certified programs are guaranteed a fair price for their goods based on an analysis of the cost of the living in their area that will allow them to lead their lives with dignity and to fund the development of schools, medical clinics and other basic necessities.
