Tiana Reid - I'm an editor and community manager at SocialBusiness.org, a place to find people, businesses and ideas that are creating positive social change. We are partnered with Trend Hunter, where I also work as a community manager.
I'm a recent graduate from McGill University where I majored in International Development and minored in Communication Studies and Cultural Studies. My 45-page undergraduate thesis explored how women navigate through dancehall culture in Jamaica.
As a writer, my fiction and non-fiction work have been published in Thought Catalog, Casino Magazine, The McGill Daily, The McGill Daily Literary Supplement, Style Sample, Speak! Magazine (Journalists for Human Rights), The Rumpus, The Guardian Social Enterprise Network, and Chicago's largest alternative weekly newspaper, N'Digo. I've also interviewed award-winning musicians such as Aloe Blacc, Fashawn and YACHT. I tend to write about race, politics, business, entrepreneurship, innovation, culture, feminism, food, theatre, film, music, art and social justice.
Working for SocialBusiness.org allows me to explore the creative ways in which people all over the world are tackling social issues. Most stimulating to me are those organizations and businesses that are working in their communities with honesty and intensity. I am especially interested in how social issues interact with race, gender, sexuality, nationality and other identity categories.
No matter what, my goal is to write, work and think critically, in order to shift from the surface to the substantive.
