In this Trust Keynote, the co-founder of the website Thrillist Ben Lerer discusses having to change the business model of a content-company in order to stay competitive. The current landscape of the advertising market has become commoditized and companies, such as the Thrillist, now need to provide a deeper level of service for their users. For users there is currently large amount of noise in the market, and Lerer explains that there is now the need to build trust through content allowing companies to move users over to the commerce side.
Lere points out that advertising alone is no longer going to cut it. Since it has become too easy to become a publisher in the web era that there is now a need for commercial web entities to begin to publish content in order to engage on a deeper level. Media companies now need to sit somewhere in between pure content and pure commerce in order to help create complete experiences for users.
