Dries Buytaert encourages letting things get out of control in this culture of sharing keynote. An example of an initiative that quickly got out of control in a positive way is Movember, the month (formerly known as November) in which men all across the world grow mustaches to raise money for cancer research. What started in 2004 between a couple of people in Australia grew into a worldwide fundraising campaign.
Buytaert's own experience with something getting out of control is the open source content management platform he developed called Drupal. Drupal is now used by companies all around the world as a result of people joining in on the project and helping it grow through passion and sharing.
In order to get out of control Dries says you must give up control. A culture of sharing is the best way to get out of control because it means people are passionate about something and are willing to follow you and support a cause that has become bigger than themselves.
