Manuela Kulpa Captures Touching Images of Contained Creatures
Meghan Young — October 7, 2014 — Fashion
The zoo animal photo series of Manuela Kulpa, a photographer based in Dormagen, Germany, is very different from the images people are used to seeing. Although just as touching and intimate, the finished look is much more dramatic. Captured in black and white with a faded filter that gives the moments a more vintage and romantic appeal, it is as though people are viewing the zoo animal photo series through a portal.
From lions to giraffes and elephants, Kulpa's zoo animal photo series is eye-opening in so many ways. There is an attention to emotion that will strike heartstrings around the world. She writes, "I see photography as my contribution to presenting the beauty of nature--but from my point of view." Through this particular series, she hopes to raise awareness about extinction.
