Wood Sculptures by Merijn Hos, an illustrator and visual artist based in Utrecht, the Netherlands, is not comprised of typical carvings or, for that matter, sculptures. As though made using planks of wood, the works of art have been vibrantly painted on to create contemporary pieces fit for the modern home.
Unfortunately for those who would love to get their hands on any one of the 109 pieces making up the exhibition Wood Sculptures by Merijn Hos, they were on display at the Stedelijk Museum Kampen in 2012 and have just wrapped up a showing at the Beginnings Gallery in Brooklyn, New York.
Ranging in size and bursting with character, Wood Sculptures by Merijn Hos was inspired by Art Brut and Folk Art. Hos reveals, "I decided to paint what are rather abstract forms in a naïve way, using about 24 colours and a uniform brush size.”
