Westchester County Hosts Free Paint Recycling Day to Promote Sustainability

The Westchester County Department of Environmental Facilities (WCDEF), in partnership with GreenSheen Paint, is inviting residents and local businesses to take part in a free Paint Recycling Day. The event offers a safe and convenient way to dispose of leftover paint while supporting the County’s broader environmental goals.

Participants who register for the event will be able to drop off a wide variety of common paint products. Accepted items include latex, acrylic, and water-based paints, as well as alkyd, oil-based, enamel, and floor paints. Specialty coatings such as stains, shellacs, waterproofing finishes, and even metal coatings are also eligible for recycling. By collecting and recycling these materials, the County helps prevent paint from entering the waste stream while also reducing the need for brand-new raw materials in paint manufacturing.

WCDEF also offers year-round paint disposal by appointment at the Household Material Recovery Facility (H-MRF), located on the Grasslands Campus at 15 Woods Road in Valhalla. Open Tuesday through Saturday, the H-MRF not only accepts paint but also provides safe collection of household chemicals and other items that cannot typically be placed at the curb.
