IDW Publishing is expanding web serial comic adaptations with the first official illustrated version of John McCrae's WORM. Originally released online between 2011 and 2013, the superhero story follows Taylor, a teenager whose ability to control insects places her in a world of complicated alliances and moral conflicts. The adaptation brings the digital narrative into a physical format with McCrae contributing creative guidance.
The ongoing series features writing by Meghan Fitzmartin and artwork by Javier Ortiz, with a special prequel issue scheduled for March 1, 2027. The first regular issue arrives in July. The original web serial has accumulated 80 million views, establishing a substantial existing audience.
For IDW Publishing, the project offers opportunities to attract longtime readers while reaching comic book enthusiasts unfamiliar with the original story. The release also demonstrates how established online fiction can support new publishing ventures.
