Waymo self-driving cars are newly allowed to transport passengers on Califonia roads -- the new rules are a result of updated permissions by California regulators. The new rule is a milestone for Waymo and the industry as a whole. The California Public Utilities Commission was the office that gave the permit to Waymo and it has since been confirmed by the company. Waymo has also indicated that it will be making use of the new ruling.
The Waymo self-driving cars that are allowed to participate in the pilot program include Chrysler Pacifica hybrid minivans, with plans to bring the Jagua I-PACE along in the future.
The California Public Utilities Commission also granted an exemption, which will allow the company to use a third-party company for safety procedures.
