Immersive Underwater Maps

The New Google 'Ocean Street View' Provides a Look at Life Under the Sea

The new immersive underwater maps from Google give you an opportunity to gain a glimpse of life underwater without ever getting wet or even leaving the house. Upping its vast global cartography collection, Google's new 'Ocean Street View' application provides 360-degree panoramic views of the ocean floor.

The project is a joint collaboration between the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Catlin Seaview Surveyand and the Chagos Conservation Trust. These organizations work in conjunction with Google to collect a number of aquatic images from the depths of the world's oceans. Not only do these underwater maps provide a stunning visual experience for viewers, but they also help to document many of the environmental changes that are occurring in the oceans.

Currently there are more than 40 underwater Street View locations for you to explore, all of which can be viewed from the comfort of your own home.
