AMD recently confirmed that it will release its ‘Threadripper 3990X’ chip in 2020. The company stated that it will have 64 cores and 128 threads, as well as 288MB of total cache. The Threadripper 3990X will also consumer 280 watts. The chip will most likely be a good option for consumers looking to run a powerful workstation.
AMD also confirmed that the chip will be available for a $1,999 price point. However the company did not state exactly when the chip will be available, or any clock speeds related to the new chip.
The Threadripper 3990X chip indicates a new direction for AMD, as it appears the company is expanding into providing hardware for servers and work stations.
