This is New York is a photo series that revolves around fun and quirky characters, the kind of people others would only be able to encounter in a bustling metropolis city. At least, encounter on a more regular basis. Let's face it, characters can be found just about anywhere. But New York can be considered a flame to these unique moths.

Inspired by real quotes overheard from real people, This is New York brings them back to life with portraits that illustrate them perfectly. The hand-drawn typography was executed by Los Angeles-based artist Angela Southern, who elaborates, "I draw inspiration from words and phrases I hear in daily life on the news, in popular culture and music." The images were shot by photographer Spencer Heyfron.
