Coventry presents an innovative approach to public art with 'This is me, this is us', a boundary-pushing outdoor exhibition that utilizes augmented reality technology to showcase works by disabled artists from the Art Riot Collective and Coventry University's Disabled Staff and Carers Network.
'This is me, this is us' transforms Broadgate Square into an accessible digital gallery space. The project enables visitors to experience large-scale virtual artworks through their personal devices or borrowed tablets. One may be stunned by striking elements like towering digital paintings and floating sculptures integrated with the urban environment. Supported by Coventry City Council and Arts Council England, the exhibition provides comprehensive accessibility features including British Sign Language interpretation, Makaton resources, and Easy Read materials, with device loans available at the local library to ensure inclusive participation.
Running from July to October 2025 with free admission, the initiative challenges conventional notions of art display and public space accessibility while amplifying underrepresented creative voices.
