Modular Track Lighting

The Race of Lights is a Slot Car-Inspired Wall Lighting System

The Race of Lights system by Davide Groppi transforms a slot car racing track into a modular wall-mounted lighting installation. Introduced in 2025, the design uses electrified matte black polyethylene track sections that can be arranged into custom layouts measuring up to five metres in length. Magnetically attached car-shaped spotlights draw power directly from the track, allowing users to reposition and direct each adjustable light source without rewiring. A standard kit includes two short straight sections, four long sections, six curved modules and four colored spotlight cars in green, white, blue and red.

The modular system supports up to eight adjustable spotlights distributed across the electrified track. Each light incorporates a movable head that allows focused illumination to be directed toward artwork, furniture or architectural features. Individual track components can be reconfigured into different layouts, enabling the installation to evolve without replacing the lighting system.
