The Orb by Shade, a Danish tech and design company, is a smart light that offers unprecedented customization when compared to other smart lights currently available on the market. While most smart lights have some degree of app connectivity for controlling aspects like intensity and color, The Orb by Shade includes directionality as well thanks to its three-tiered design.

The Orb has five LEDs embedded into its three-tiered disc. These tiers each light up completely independently from one another, allowing for direct, indirect, or flood lighting.

Shade's app for The Orb comes with preset lighting modes that are generally popular for various moods and environments (settings for activities like reading or watching movies, for example,) but the app makes it easy to create custom settings or adjust the lights from scratch. The app can also automatically adjust the light settings gradually over the course of the day, eliminating the need to make manual changes.
