Warm Timber Coastal Homes

Parsonson Architects Designs the Lookout Home on a Stilted Base

Local design studio Parsonson Architects creates the Lookout, which is a cozy home located on the hillside of Ruby Bay in New Zealand's Tasman District. The home is defined by warm tones with a timber structure resting on top of a partially elevated site to respond to the sloped location. The home is painted red at the cladding and finished with weathered steel for a captivating exterior.

The founder of the studio, Gerald Parsonson speaks to Dezeen about the project, noting "The core concept behind the design is to create a simple form, with a hard and weathered outer skin protecting warm interior spaces filled with natural materials and colour. Structural elements of exposed concrete blocks anchor the house into the site, contrasting with the interior delicacy of timber framed construction and finer detailing."
