AI-Powered Retail Platforms

Target Introduced a Mobile App Rebuild with AI Coding Companions

Target introduced a major AI-driven overhaul of its retail technology under CTO Prat Vemana, featuring AI coding companions designed to accelerate development across its engineering teams. The company said the update included a complete rewrite of its mobile app, completed in about 18 months, and broadened AI use among coders, data scientists and cybersecurity staff.

Vemana stressed the tools were deployed to speed projects and support growth rather than to cut the global workforce, with tech talent remaining central to execution. The rebuild added new app features and refactored legacy elements to enable emerging AI shopping experiences and integrations.

For consumers, the changes aim to deliver faster product innovation and smoother AI-enabled shopping interactions, reflecting a broader trend of retailers using generative AI to modernize customer-facing platforms.
