Stonetown Artisan Cheese, a farmstead producer based in St. Marys, Canada, recently gained recognition on the international stage after taking home first place at the American Cheese Society Awards. The win was awarded to its Grand Trunk cheese, in the Open Category for washed rind cow’s milk cheeses, one of the competition’s most competitive classes.
Grand Trunk also received an honourable mention as one of the highest-scoring raw milk cheeses and secured a third-place finish in the ceremony's Best in Show category, cementing its status as a standout among North America’s top cheesemakers.
Cheesemaker Ramon Eberle credits the win to both tradition and terroir. Inspired by classic Gruyère-style cheeses of the Swiss Alps, Grand Trunk is made using traditional methods and milk produced directly on Stonetown’s farm.
