Six Specialty Drinks are Coming to McDonald's This Spring

— April 28, 2026 — Lifestyle
Six new, bold, bright specialty drinks are coming to McDonald's restaurants nationwide in May—three Refreshers and three crafted sodas, featuring craveable inclusions like freeze-dried fruit and popping boba. The Dirty Dr Pepper, for instance, layers classic Dr Pepper flavor, a vanilla flavor and fluffy cold foam for a rich, sweet experience.

"Our fans have an obsession with beverages—to them, drinks are more than just drinks. And soon, our beverages won't just be a reason you come to McDonald's, they'll be the reason," said Alyssa Buetikofer, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, McDonald's USA. "We've taken the time to get this right, introducing new drinks that are hand-crafted with bold flavors and quality ingredients our fans can taste in every sip."

Since drinks are more than drinks for McDonald's customers, the company teamed up with designer Susan Alexandra to create six limited-edition beaded drink carriers for stylish, hands-free carrying.

Trend Themes

  1. Crafted Fast-food Beverages — Premium ingredients and layered flavors in fast-food drinks are enabling menu items to function as destination products that can redefine quick-service value propositions.
  2. Experiential Packaging Accessories — Designer beaded carriers and collectible packaging are transforming functional containers into fashion-forward touchpoints that extend brand presence beyond the point of sale.
  3. Textural Beverage Add-ins — Inclusions like freeze-dried fruit and popping boba are shifting consumer expectations toward multi-sensory drink experiences that create new product categories within beverage menus.

Industry Implications

  1. Quick-service Restaurants — Menu-driven beverage innovation is creating opportunities for restaurants to compete on experience and premiumization rather than solely on price and speed.
  2. Lifestyle Accessories — Collaborations with designers for branded accessories are allowing lifestyle and fashion brands to enter foodservice adjacencies through limited-edition merchandise tie-ins.
  3. Beverage Manufacturing — Demand for novel textures and craft flavors is prompting manufacturers to develop new processing and ingredient systems tailored to hybrid fresh-and-ready drink products.
