Pauline van Dongen's 'Solar Windbreaker' is not only a clever use of technology that blends style with performance, but it is designed with sustainability in mind. The durable jacket comes with flexible solar panels and a power bank in the lining of the jacket, allowing hikers going on long forays into the wild to keep their devices charged in case of emergency.
van Dongen designed her Solar Windbreaker for all hikers, but specifically had the tour guides of The Wadden Sea Islands in the Netherlands in mind. Those guides frequently take tours out for 10 hours a day during low tide, meaning that a solar-powering jacket is important to keep their hiking tours safe. The jackets' panels and power banks can charge a smartphone in one to two hours, depending on the weather.
