Samsung Electronics Partners with Hartford Steam Boiler

Samsung Electronics, in partnership with Hartford Steam Boiler (HSB), has launched a service called Smart Home Savings. This initiative aims to provide financial incentives for homeowners who use connected appliances.

The collaborative Smart Home Savings service allows users who opt in through the SmartThings application to share data from their compatible Samsung devices — such as washers or refrigerators with leak detection — with participating insurance providers. The premise is that insurers may offer reduced premium rates by recognizing the potential risk mitigation provided by these smart appliances, which can alert owners to issues like water leaks before they cause significant damage.

The Smart Home Savings program, which began a pilot phase in Florida, is now expanding to other regions and is designed as an open model to include other appliance brands and insurers.
