Slicked-Back Updos

DIY Paris Runway Looks Show Off Nearly Any Outfit

As usual, a lot of interesting and very dramatic looks came down the runways in Paris during Fashion Week. One of my favorites, however, was the simple, elegant effect of the slick updo that several designers made use of to highlight the clothes and accessories.

Designers presenting this look included Akris, Andrew Gn, Giambattista Valli, Givenchy, Guy Laroche, Christian Lacroix, Lanvin and Nina Ricci. Each designer favored an individual twist on the look by adding embellishments such as braids, side parts and even leather hairpieces.

While staying a classic look, it is one that designers and stylists have shown we can have fun with. Best of all, this look is easily emulated at home, giving budget-conscious fashionistas the option to skip the pricey salon visit before an event.
