Hy-Vee Connects Older Adults with Pharmacists and Dietitians

Hy-Vee is expanding its role in community health through senior wellness events that connect older adults with pharmacists and dietitians inside its grocery stores. Held on the third Wednesday of every month, Senior Wellness Day provides attendees aged 60 and older with guidance on topics such as vaccines, flu-season health and health insurance enrollment. Participating stores also offer a $5 Balanced Plate breakfast, free coffee and discounts on vitamins, combining practical health education with an approachable social experience.

The recurring program positions Hy-Vee stores as convenient wellness destinations beyond traditional grocery shopping. Providing direct access to health professionals can strengthen relationships with older customers while increasing awareness of the retailer’s pharmacy, nutrition and wellness services. The monthly format also encourages repeat visits and creates opportunities for cross-category purchases. For Hy-Vee, integrating healthcare guidance with food and retail benefits can deepen customer loyalty while differentiating its stores through community-focused services.
