There are plenty of selfie lights that can be purchased and attached to one's camera to improve self-portraits taken by phone, but Adafruit's newest project invites makers to create their own lighting solution.
Adafruit's 3D-Printed NeoPixel LED Ring Light is a project that calls for a few simple pieces of hardware and challenges one to get familiar with the basics of additive manufacturing, soldering, coding and basic circuitry.
The main frame of the lighting rig is created with 3D printing, making it a fairly small smartphone photography accessory that's portable and battery-powered. Optionally, the device can also be plugged directly into the wall for use. The finished product provides a clean, crisp white light with a balanced color temperature that is ideal for photography.
