Branded QR Code Generators

GS1 UK Launches Its Self-Serve QR Code Generator

GS1 UK launched a self-serve QR code generator that enables brands to create QR codes powered by GS1, helping SMEs and larger manufacturers prepare for the shift to next-generation barcodes. The tool links existing GS1 identifiers, including Global Trade Item Numbers, to trusted digital information while remaining compatible with established product data standards.

The rollout follows pilots and early adoption, including Tesco’s transition to GS1-powered QR codes across its own-label core sausage range. Brands can generate codes directly, phase implementation into existing workflows and embed QR creation into everyday product data processes without changing the identifiers they already use.

For shoppers and retailers, GS1-powered QR codes can provide richer product information while improving access to batch and date data. The technology also supports more accurate inventory management, precise recalls and greater supply chain transparency as next-generation barcodes enter mainstream retail.
